Minute-to-Win-It challenges
I adapted some Minute-To-Win-It challenges so that you can use materials you have at home. Use a timer or the last minute of a song to time yourself and try to complete the challenge in one minute.
These are challenges that can be adapted to be easier or harder for each person. Adapt your Minute-to-Win-It so that it's hard, but not totally impossible.

Shoe Fly Shoe
Check with your family to find a safe place to try this one! In Shoe Fly Shoe you have 12 attempts, in one minute, to try and flip your shoe onto the top of a table. Remember, this is supposed to be a challenge. If it's too easy, try from a little further back. An outside patio table makes a great target table (unless it's class ... ooops). |

Puzzle Push-Ups
Get your materials ready by using a box from the recycling bin. A cereal box is recommended and you can make your puzzle pieces any shape or size you like. I made my puzzle pretty hard because I love puzzles and I love a challenge, I didn't want it to be too easy.
I am using the push-up position, but you can put your pieces across the room or yard and run like a relay for your pieces or do curl-ups for pieces ...

Whew! This puzzle drove me nuts! It was also hot out, the whole process took way longer than I thought, it was past our dinner time, and I didn't have enough water. So, I decided to also make it a reminder about the Mood Meter and taking a Meta Moment or using mood shifting strategies. Seattle Public Schools' Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) website has great resources about our RULER curriculum, including the Mood Meter and a RULER Skills for Families document. |

Third attempt.
Mood shifting closer to blue, tired and a bit run-down. Shifting strategy: get more comfortable This is when I decide to try a flexibility attempt, to give my body a little rest. |
Ok, I probably need to study this puzzle a little bit more. I need to keep trying, but I also need to study and do something different before my next attempt.
I put it together without a timer, try and memorize the finished puzzle and some tricks, but I'm still tired and thirsty.
I better get it this time.
4th try
Deep breath

Guess what happens next? I keep pushing myself, attempt 5 and 6 fail, and now it's getting worse! "Really?!?!? This was supposed to be fun?!?", I ask myself.
Definitely getting into the red and feeling irritated, so time for a break. Food, water, rest, and I'll try again later.
I still think I can get it though, so I'm not going to make an easier puzzle or adapt.

Players must sort items hidden under cups, one at a time, by running them around the playing area to the corresponding storage cup.
What You Need:
- 15 Plastic Cups or bowls
- 12 total items, 3 different types, 4 of each, that are safe to run with AND will fit in the cup. Examples: rubber bands, paper clips, chapstick, wrapped throat lozenge; erasers; dog treats; coins; legos
- Table or floor for Set-Up
- post it notes or small paper to tape to three target cups
- To start, 15 cups are set upside down on the table and each has an item underneath it.
- Near the playing area, 3 cups are set up to collect the items. They should be labeled with the name of each item.
- When the clock starts, the player will turn over the first cup and retrieve the item from under it. He or she will take the item to it’s corresponding storage cup.
- This continues, one cup at a time, until all of the items have been sorted and are in their storage cups.
